The Giggly Goat in Lockdown

As we enter the last month before The Giggly Goat reopens; it’s time to reflect on the last few months during lockdown. It’s been a difficult time for many.
We’re infinitely grateful for the courageous essential workers and our thoughts are with the families and friends of those who have lost their lives to Covid-19.

At the start of lockdown, I was in denial so I threw myself into jobs around the house as an escape. I painted doors and walls, cleaned windows, blitzed the kitchen cupboard – I even wallpapered! All were excellent forms of distraction from the sadness of having to temporarily close The Giggly Goat.
We had just celebrated the shop’s 6th anniversary on our last weekend before lockdown.

I expected lockdown to be a very productive and creative time, but this didn’t feel possible in the first few weeks. It’s often a case of creating the head-space to let ideas flow instead of putting pressure on ourselves to be perfect from the start.
Thankfully, the creativity started flowing and my love of sewing is being satisfied by making headbands for the NHS and key-workers.
They’re designed to protect workers’ ears from the strain of wearing face masks for long shifts.
This is a project that has been organised by Norwich Seamstress Hannah Wilding, who was inspired by her daughter’s work in a care home. Hannah has made hundreds of these headbands and is now making masks too!
It’s been brilliant to feel helpful even in this small way!

Take a look at her Facebook page if you would like a mask, headband or a set of both. She has an amazing array of fabric to choose from!
We’re counting down the days until we can open our shop again and see all our lovely customers. We love our place in the Norwich Lanes and want to stay there for many years. We pride ourselves on our values as a business and the people behind the scenes echo this. Kindness, humanity and sustainability are key.

We look forward to seeing you once we re-open on 1st July. We’ll be following all the appropriate safety measures to ensure customer and employee safety.
Watch this space for more details on the specific measures we’ll be putting in place.
